Our History

Hampton joined the Merchants Bank family in 2000 as part of the Hampton Banks acquisition, which included locations in Apple Valley, Cottage Grove, Hampton and Hastings.

J. G. Schmidt and S. A. Nerland established the State Bank of Hampton in 1899 in the small town of Hampton, MN. Then in 1904, Albert Muellerleile and his wife purchased a majority interest in the bank and were the major decision-makers for the bank over the next 65 years.

In 1926, the State Bank of Hampton assumed all assets and liabilities of their competitor bank, Farmers & Merchants and moved to a larger brick building, which is still used today. Eventually, in 1989, Primo Holding Company purchased Hampton Bank before the Merchants acquisition 11 years later.
